Successful January Of Bollywood

The year 2011 has definitely begun on a bright note for Bollywood with two consecutive successes in the form of NO ONE KILLED JESSICA and YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA. Though the success of YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA was a forgone conclusion (due to the good reports and response to the promos), the universal acceptance of NOKJ is indeed gladdening. And now there is more good news to follow for Bollywood with more probable hit films in the offing.

Following the footsteps of NOKJ and YPD, this Friday's release, Aamir Khan's DHOBI GHAT is carrying good reports and although the film is made for the niche audience, trade is expecting the film to turn out to be a profit making venture for all concerned because of it's low budget of just around 5 crores.
After that, January 28th to be exact will see the release of Madhur Bhandarkar's light hearted romantic comedy, DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI. This film too appears to be a probable winner. Due to the good promos, big star cast in form of Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi (fresh from the success of ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI), and excellent music by Pritam, trade is optimistic that Madhur's new attempt at comedy will indeed bear fruits.

Certainly if these predictions do come true this will probably be the best ever January for Bollywood because as we know that last year there was such a paucity of hits that we had just a handful of successes during the first half. In fact ISHQIYA, the first hit (and that too in select circuits) came only during the last week of January followed by MY NAME IS KHAN in February and ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE? in March.
